At the islands northernmost part, located between the port of Agios Nikolas Volimon and the cape of Shinari, you can visit the Blue Caves. The jade green waters of the Ionian crushing into the steep white boulders create an amazing scenery. The Blue Caves are one of the most famous of our island’s natural sights and they attract thousands of visitors every year.
The largest of the caves is called Azure Cave due to the azure shade of its waters. This location is accessible only by sea using boats that can be found in the nearby ports such as Agio Nikolao, Faro Shinariou and Porto Vromi. Furthermore, small boats travel there from many parts of the island. Smaller boats can even enter some of the caves so that visitors can admire the stalactites and the beautiful natural environment.
This location is ideal for those that love diving and swimming in deep freezing waters. The reflection of the sun on the cave’s waters, especially in the early morning hours, create an image that you will never forget.
